Culture of Music

One subject that defines America is the musical culture. Over the centuries, music has changed from different musicality to different styles. My favorite style is rock. Music is my passion, and the type of music I listen to defines me. There are many people out there that believe classic rock is the only music out there. They believe that some music styles such as rap, hip-hop, and alternative are all crap (excuse my French but it’s the truth). There are many other people that listen to rap, hip-hop, etc. and believe that classic rock is something of the past. Then there are people that listen to a little bit of everything and respect all styles of music. I am one of those people.
Music can describe the culture of a nation or time period. Between 1825 and 1900, there was a period called the Romantic period. It was named that because the music had a romantic turn and was supposed to make you cry because of the emphasis the composers put into it. Music defined that era of time because of what an impact it had o the world.
As of today, rock and the other music styles I mentioned earlier have not impacted the world as much as orchestras have. There is a part of me that says that orchestras will still impact the world, but rock music and other styles will impact it even more than they have today. As technology gets better, and more techniques discovered for the instruments, the styles of my generation can only have a greater impact.
In my opinion, what you listen to is a part of what defines you. Just like how it’s not the inside that counts, it’s your actions that people take notice to that count (yay for Batman Begins). When you listen to hip-hop and pop, you try to keep up with all the latest fashions. When you listen to classic rock, you tend to refer to back to the 60s and 70s for inspiration. When you listen to alternative, you don’t care what others think about you and if they don’t like it, who cares. These are just some of the styles of music that can impact a person’s life.
To end my blog, I just wanted to ask a question about whatever happened to MTV andVH1. Those channels used to be giving tour updates, interviews with bands, and nonstop music videos. Now it seems that all that’s on is publicity stunts such as “Parental Control” and other shows. Please write comments…

MTV is honestly an embarrassment!
They really took the 'music' out of 'music television'
Especially that TRL of theirs.
Thirty seconds of a music video interrupted by some idiots squealing.
